Celebrating Pride, Community and Belonging at Active Prospects

We recently came together for our annual Pride event – an afternoon of true celebration and inclusivity.

The event provided an opportunity to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community, connect with one another, and reflect on the importance of creating environments where everyone feels valued.

A highlight of the afternoon was an amazing drag cabaret performance by Ophelia Payne. This brought real energy and community spirit to the event, with everyone joining in, dancing, and supporting one another to be their true selves—singing along to well-loved classics.

We also explored the question, “What does Pride mean to you?”—recognising that this can be different for everyone. Many shared words such as “acceptance, love, visibility”, and so much more.

“It is so important that we continue to support Pride events across the country. Allies are just as important—being someone who actively supports the LGBTQIA+ community.”
– Ophelia Payne

The event also highlighted the importance of allyship. Meaningful inclusion happens when people listen to each other, challenge barriers, and work together to create environments where everyone can thrive. Celebrations such as Pride provide valuable opportunities to continue these conversations and strengthen the sense of community that sits at the heart of Active Prospects.

For us at Active Prospects, Pride is a celebration of identity, visibility, and ongoing, progressive inclusivity. We believe that inclusion is not just something we talk about—it is something we actively work to embed across our organisation.

Our staff networks play an important role in helping us achieve this. They create opportunities for people to share their experiences, influence positive change, and ensure diverse voices are heard.

The LGBTQIA+ Inclusivity Network helps to raise awareness, encourage understanding, and support the development of an inclusive culture across our homes, services, and workplaces. By creating opportunities for open conversation and learning, the network strengthens our commitment to ensuring everyone feels they belong.

A huge thank you goes to everyone who helped organise the event, and to all those who attended. Your enthusiasm, openness, and support made the day a meaningful and enjoyable celebration.

Together, we will continue building a workplace and organisation where everyone has the opportunity to be themselves and thrive.
