Celebrating excellence: The Star Awards shine bright

During the start of summer, Reigate Manor became the epicentre of inspiration and celebration as 120 people gathered for the highly anticipated Star Awards. The event also reached a wider audience through online streaming, allowing many more to join in from their homes. The Star Awards is not just an event, it’s a celebration of the people we support and teams within our organisation whose dedication and passion for social care make a difference in the lives of others.

Throughout the awards evening, we heard stories of compassion, and remarkable achievements. The room was filled with admiration and a few heartfelt tears. The awards highlighted the extraordinary efforts of our colleagues and people, reminding us all why we are proud to be part of this organisation.

Among the many inspirational stories, we heard moving nominations for Musa, a person we support. Musa’s transformation over the past year is nothing short of remarkable. Previously, his health condition had a significant impact on his life, limiting his activities and aspirations. However, with the support of our dedicated team, Musa’s life has taken a transformative turn.

Understanding and addressing what was truly important to Musa became the cornerstone of his team’s approach. By focusing on his interests and future aspirations, Musa has made incredible strides. Musa now volunteers at a foodbank and at NHS East Surrey Hospital, where his attention to detail and enthusiasm shine brightly. His commitment to giving back to the community is commendable. Additionally, Musa is on the brink of starting his first paid job as an Oliver McGowan Trainer, a role he is incredibly excited about.

But Musa’s achievements don’t stop there. He has also taken charge of maintaining his home, engaging in cooking, and building meaningful relationships. These steps have not only encouraged his independence but have also allowed him to have control over his life. Musa’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact that personalised support and encouragement can have on a person’s life. Musa won a Star Award on the evening and said “It really means so much to me. To be seen and heard, this is only just the beginning for me.”

The Star Awards was a night to remember, filled with stories that touched our hearts and motivated us to continue striving for excellence in social care. Musa’s story exemplifies the transformative power of support and dedication. We look forward to celebrating many more such achievements in the future.
