African themed BBQ celebrates move

A summer barbecue was the perfect house-warming event for four people we support through our Community Prospects service. Having moved during the summer from an increasingly unsuitable property in Caterham to a wonderful new bungalow in Kenley purchased especially for them, Pauline, Peggy, Eileen and Raymond worked with staff to plan a fitting celebration.

Neighbours, staff and people we support from across our services were all invited to the African themed bbq, which took place on a lovely sunny Saturday.

It was a real joint effort with Support Worker Juliet making lots of authentic African food such as Joloff rice and spicy chicken, dumplings and two chicken stews, to sit alongside the assortment of sandwiches, vegetarian pasta salad, mixed salad and sausages and burgers from the bbq. Service Manager, Sue, brought her famous Lemon Drizzle cake and a Victoria Sponge, our Trainer John brought a lovely Pineapple Upside Down cake, and one of the neighbours also brought some puddings for everyone to enjoy. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food, music and the company of friends and neighbours.

The afternoon’s upbeat musical entertainment was provided by Alex and Heather who are supported by our Young Prospects service. Lots of people we support through our Community Prospects and residential services joined the party to help Pauline, Peggy, Eileen and Raymond celebrate moving in to their wonderful new home. What a great team effort. Thank you to everyone involved for making it such a special day.
