Supporting East Surrey by alleviating the Cost of Living Crisis and improving lives

Across East Surrey, organisations are working hard to help people cope with the cost of living crisis and improve their quality of life. A big part of these efforts is the upcoming event, Managing My Money, on 21st June, led by the Surrey People’s Group and Pro-Active Community. This event aims to equip individuals with essential financial decision-making skills, covering topics from budget planning to saving strategies. It would be great if local organisations get involved to participate and support this event.

Maria Mills, CEO of Active Prospects, recently spoke at the East Surrey Health and Wellbeing Group, highlighting our collective dedication to making a real difference.

One of the flagship initiatives in East Surrey focuses on making homes more energy-efficient. By working with support providers, we’ve implemented strategies to help individuals reduce their utility bills. These simple yet effective measures have significantly eased the financial burdens of rising living costs.

Additionally, in partnership with Surrey County Council, we have launched an exciting project to promote the use of air-fryers and slow cookers across Surrey. This initiative encourages healthier cooking alternatives and reduces energy consumption, showcasing our commitment to both innovation and sustainability.

We also offer comprehensive cost of living workshops and cooking skills courses in collaboration with East Surrey College. These initiatives provide practical knowledge and recipe ideas, helping everyone save money and eat well. The courses have been a huge success and a person we support said, “I have enjoyed learning new recipes to cook at home which are healthy. It has been fun to be involved.”

Incorporating principles of ESG (environmental, social, and governance), these initiatives not only address financial challenges but also aim to tackle non-financial risks that may impact our daily lives.
