A Celebration of Wellbeing, Creativity and Belonging

In December, Active Prospects was proud to host our Wellbeing Photo Exhibition, showcasing a powerful collection of photographs taken by members of our wellbeing coaching programme. The exhibition was a celebration to showcase the real impact of our codesigned wellbeing coaching programme, particularly for autistic members who are often overlooked by mainstream mental health services.

More than photographs

Each photograph represented far more than a moment captured in nature. The exhibition showcased stories of people building confidence, finding calm, connecting with others, and taking independent steps forward with the support of their coaches.

Photography plays a unique role within our wellbeing coaching. It encourages people to slow down, notice the world around them, regulate their breathing, explore new places, and feel grounded. Going out together to take photos has also created safe, peer-led spaces where people share experiences and form genuine connections. For many, these sessions have become a valued routine that reduces isolation and supports ongoing wellbeing.

Reaching people missed by mainstream services

The exhibition also highlighted why this work matters. Research shows that around one-third of autistic adults experience suicidal thoughts, and around 50% develop anxiety disorders. Despite this, many autistic people struggle to access timely, appropriate support.

Our co-designed wellbeing coaching programme helps to reduce this mental health inequality gap for neurodivergent people by removing barriers and opening up new opportunities.

Within just six months, our wellbeing coaching has improved members’ wellbeing by 25%, demonstrating the difference early, personalised support can make.

As Lynsey Way, Clinical Director at Active Prospects, shared:

“Watching people in our programme take control of their health, meet their goals, and gain confidence has been amazing.”

The power of peer connection

Many people tell us they felt invisible before accessing our support. Peer connection is central to our wellbeing model, helping people feel seen, valued and understood.

From photography walks to group activities like Table Tennis Thursdays, which began when one member shared that ping-pong was his ‘spark’ — these shared experiences have grown into weekly moments of connection and community.

Looking ahead: sustaining and growing the model

The exhibition was also an opportunity to look forward. With continuation funding, we will be able to reach more people and make the wellbeing coaching model sustainable.

Our plans include:

  • Introducing two levels of support, allowing coaches to focus time where it is most needed
  • Running at least four inclusive group sessions each month, responding directly to member feedback
  • Removing the 12-week limit on support, so people can continue at their own pace and stay connected through group activities
  • Offering earlier support to prevent people reaching crisis point and to help them build tools to stay in control

Thank you to our funders

We would like to share our sincere thanks to Surrey County Council, CEWE, Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, and Marion Leigh, whose support —made this exhibition and the ongoing delivery of our wellbeing programme possible.

Your investment is helping people who are often left without vital support to move forward, build confidence, and discover what helps them stay well.
