Finding Her Freedom Again
When Tracey came to Active Prospects, life had been difficult for a long time. She had lived through some very hard experiences and had moved from place to place in institutional settings, never quite finding the right home. In her last service, she had alarms on her doors, so she couldn’t come and go when she wanted. Most days, she stayed inside, and trips out were rare. When she did go somewhere, she needed two staff with her, which made things feel even more restrictive. Without much to do and no healthy eating plan, Tracey gained weight and often felt low in energy.
Things began to change when Tracey joined Active Prospects. Her new team took time to get to know her – what she enjoys, what matters to her, and what makes her feel safe. Together, they made a plan that gave Tracey more control over her own life. The door alarms came off. Now, she can pop out whenever she wants – to get some fresh air, go to the shops, or just have a change of scenery. She now only needs one staff member with her when she’s out, which means she can be more spontaneous and independent.
Tracey is a fun, vibrant woman with a great sense of humour. She loves browsing the shops for handbags, jewellery and anything with a bit of sparkle. She enjoys flipping through magazines, listening to music, and dancing along to her favourite songs. She’s also discovered new hobbies. At DAYSPACE, she’s tried cooking and pottery, made new friends, and built up her confidence. With a healthy eating plan in place and regular activities, she’s been able to manage her weight and feel fitter.
These days, Tracey feels comfortable taking the bus and often travels to central London to shop. She spends more time with friends and is more involved in planning her days. Her team encourages her to try new things, and each new step brings her even more confidence.
Tracey’s life now is full of small freedoms that mean a lot – being with people, choosing her own meals, browsing for something sparkly, and knowing she can head out when she wants. From a life full of limits, she now has space to laugh, explore, and enjoy each day.
