Celebrating Pride, Community and Belonging at Active Prospects

Colleagues and people we support from across Active Prospects recently came together for our Pride celebration, organised by our LGBTQIA+ Inclusion Network.

The event was an uplifting opportunity to celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community, and revisit the importance of creating environments where everyone feels truly respected and able to be themselves.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was the fantastic drag cabaret performance from Ophelia Payne, which brought energy, laughter and a real sense of community to the celebration. People sang along to favourite songs, danced together and enjoyed an atmosphere filled with warmth and encouragement.

More than anything, the event was about bringing people together. The afternoon created a genuine sense of belonging, with people feeling comfortable to express themselves, learn from one another and simply enjoy being part of a supportive community.

Attendees were also naturally invited to reflect on the question, What does Pride mean to you? Responses highlighted the diversity of perspectives within the room, with words such as acceptance, love, visibility, community featuring prominently.

Speaking at the event, Ophelia Payne highlighted the importance of LGBTQIA+ allyship:

“It is so important that we continue to support Pride events across the country. Allies are just as important – being someone who actively supports the LGBTQIA+ community.”

The celebration was a reflection of Active Prospects commitment to being a people-led organisation. Our inclusion networks create opportunities for people to help shape our culture, ensuring diverse voices are heard across our homes and workplaces.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped organise the event and to everyone who attended. Your enthusiasm, openness and support made the day a truly special celebration of Pride, community and belonging.

As we move forward, we remain committed to enabling people to shape our organisation and services together, joining voices to improve opportunities and experiences for others. Events like this demonstrate the power of listening, celebrating diversity and creating environments where people feel seen, heard and valued.
