People we support reap benefits of Active Health Day

Our first ever Active Health day was held on Tuesday 25th September for people we support and staff, and was run as part of a growing activities programme, in partnership with YMCA East Surrey.

Attendees took advantage of free health checks, healthy eating and exercise workshops, a mindfulness, happiness and wellbeing session and demonstrations on how to prepare and cook more unusual fruit and vegetables.

The event proved really popular with people we support and staff alike. The fruit and veg preparation workshop, in particular, was a huge hit with Michael managing to make five fruit kebabs, and Theresa managing to eat most of hers rather than assembling them! The group were shown how to prepare a pineapple, kiwi fruit and avocado, helping to broaden their future food choices. Everyone enjoyed a bring-and-share lunch together when they were also able to sample the ‘fruits’ of their labour.

Goody bags with healthy snacks, herbal teas and a re-usable and recycled Active Prospects’ water bottle ended the day on a high for attendees. The supply of re-usable water bottles will help participants to fulfil one of our Active Prospects five eco-pledges, which is to stop buying single use bottles of water.

Altogether, the event was a brilliant success and will now become a regular fixture in our activities for the future.
