Active Prospects opens new homes in Brighton and Hove

Brighton, UK – 6 December 2024 – Active Prospects was thrilled to announce the opening of our four new homes in Brighton and Hove, purpose-built for people with complex needs who are moving from a hospital setting.

The development is Active Prospects’ first in Brighton and Hove, and was made possible by a capital grant from NHS England. It continues Active Prospects’ expansion across the south-east following the opening of four new homes in Horsham in November.

The UK faces a severe shortage of appropriate housing for people with complex needs, often leaving them in long-term hospital settings or unsuitable accommodations. For many, this has meant never having a place to truly call home. Active Prospects has been tackling this issue by developing purpose-built homes that offer the dignity, care, and support necessary for independent living. The new homes in Brighton and Hove are a testament to this commitment, featuring bespoke designs and cutting-edge technology to enhance residents’ safety and quality of life.

The importance of a safe, supportive environment where people can finally experience the joy and stability of having their own space, is core to Active Prospects’ work. This development is not just about bricks and mortar; it is about transforming lives and giving people the opportunity and support to live more independently and achieve their goals. Over the last six years, Active Prospects has enabled more than 50 people with complex needs to move from hospital settings into their own homes, with a 94% success rate.

At the opening event, attendees from Brighton & Hove City Council, NHS England and the Department for Health & Social Care had the opportunity to view the property and meet with Active Prospects staff and senior team members to discuss the organisation’s work and the positive impact of the new homes.

Maria Mills, CEO of Active Prospects, said: “We are delighted to open our first homes in Brighton and Hove and are grateful for the support we’ve received from NHS England and Brighton & Hove City Council to make this ambitious development happen. The new flats will provide a supportive, inclusive environment that meets the complex needs of the people we support. We aim to help individuals live as independently as possible, with access to both high-quality housing and innovative support systems.”
