Active Prospects joins the National Day of Action for Social Care

Standing together to demand recognition, fair pay, and sustainable funding.

Yesterday, Active Prospects joined care providers, staff, and people we support in a powerful Day of Action in Parliament Square, standing up for social care and demanding urgent policy change. Social care is at a breaking point – without adequate funding, the sustainability and quality of vital care services are at risk.

Maria Mills, CEO of Active Prospects, highlights the urgency of the situation:

“Together with the people we support, we are calling for the funding and commitment that social care urgently needs. This is not just about sustaining services—it’s about protecting a vital lifeline that countless people rely on. Social care ensures people receive the dignity, care, and support they need, enabling them to live well in their own homes and communities, rather than in health settings.”

We marched in London alongside thousands of others to call on central government to acknowledge the value of social care. Care workers, families, and those who rely on support deserve better. The event was not just about rallying on the day, it was about making change and demonstrating how social care plays such a vital role in shaping the lives of millions, keeping communities together, and ensuring that people can live with dignity, choice, and control.

Every day, our teams at Active Prospects provide innovative, high-quality, and flexible care that empowers people to lead fulfilling lives. Our commitment is to create an environment where people can thrive in their own homes and communities, rather than being placed in institutional or health settings unnecessarily. However, the lack of funding and fair pay threatens the stability of the sector. Without care support, many people would be left isolated, struggling to manage day-to-day activities, and unable to engage with their communities.

Leanne, a person we support also spoke about why it matters:

“Without social care, I wouldn’t be able to live the life I do. I have independence, I have friends, and I feel part of my community. I want the government to listen and make sure people like me don’t get left behind.”

One of our staff members who attended the march shared their thoughts:

“We need to be heard. Social care is critical to so many, and the government needs to take action. It is good to see people together today, but more needs to be done. We can’t allow social care to remain an afterthought – it’s time for action and real investment.”

The Day of Action is a powerful moment, but it is only the beginning. Advocacy must continue, ensuring that our calls for recognition, fair pay, and sustainable funding translate into meaningful government action. It’s time for social care to be valued, funded, and protected.
