Active Prospects has been awarded £130,000 over two years by SASC Trust to lead new research into why supported living tenancies break down.
The project will focus on the experiences of people with learning disabilities, autistic people and people with complex needs. We will explore what causes people to lose or leave their homes and what could help prevent this.
Why this work matters
A stable home provides safety, independence and a true sense of belonging. This project will examine the reasons behind tenancy breakdown and the costs to the public purse. It will also identify changes that could help people remain safely in their homes.
Research shaped by lived experience
People with lived experience will help shape the project from the beginning.
We will work alongside them throughout every stage of the research. Their experiences and ideas will inform the questions we ask, the evidence we gather and the guidance we produce.
This will ensure the research reflects what tenancy breakdown means in people’s lives and that the findings lead to practical change.
Learning for the wider sector
The project is not solely about improving Active Prospects’ own services.
We will use the findings to develop practical guidance for supported living providers, commissioners and other organisations. The research will also build evidence about the costs that could be avoided when people receive the right support to sustain their tenancies.
Our aim is to share learning that can strengthen supported living and help more people keep a home of their own.
