Mayor says “Big Thank You” to Volunteers

A “Big Thank You” Roadshow took place across Reigate and Banstead on 7 June as part of the national celebrations for Volunteers Week.

Mayor Cllr Dorothy Ross-Tomlin joined staff from Voluntary Action Reigate & Banstead to present individual thank you cards and cakes to over 80 volunteers across the borough, including those at Active Prospects. The Mayor praised the generosity of volunteers and said that their contribution was vital to the functioning of many local organisations.

Many of the volunteers shared their varied reasons for volunteering:

“To give something back to the Community”; “To fill a gap after my husband died”; “Because I want to share my skills and connect with my local community”; “Because I love meeting new people and providing help”; “I am now retired and wanted to give something back”.

Active Prospects was delighted that its volunteers and supported volunteers were given the recognition they deserve for the fantastic contribution they make across the organisation from activities and outings for people we support, to working in our central office in Reigate and our charity shop in Horley.

The Big Thank you Roadshow was just one of many events taking place across the UK as part of national Volunteers Week.  37% of people over the age of 16 volunteer formally at least once a year with 22% volunteering at least once a month.  If you would like to find out more about volunteering opportunities at Active Prospects take a look at our Volunteering With Us page or call Sue Stockman on 01737924231 .
