People We Support Visit Local MP

On Friday 25th August, two of the people supported by Active Prospects – Leanne and Lizzie – joined Head of Business Development, Sue Stockman, to meet local MP, Sam Gyimah.

The visit was designed to enable Leanne and Lizzie to raise a number of issues affecting people with physical and learning disabilities on behalf of the Pro-Active Committee – a group of people supported by Active Prospects who meet regularly to help shape and make decisions about the way the organisation grows and develops. The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss concerns about the adult health and social care sector nationally and locally, and about the local environment in Horley.

Leanne and Lizzie were excellent representatives of the Committee and confidently asked their questions, listened to the responses and replied with clear insight into how some suggestions might not be easy for those with disabilities.

As a result of the meeting, Mr Gyimah gained a greater understanding of the issues facing people with a learning disability and particularly how hard it is to get information when you may not be easily able to use a computer.
