Supported volunteering gives people supported by Active Prospects an opportunity to gain the skills and experience they need to secure and maintain paid employment.
Supported Volunteers are allocated an experienced Job Coach who conducts an assessment of their skills, interests and aspirations and matches them to available volunteer opportunities across Active Prospects. The Job Coach will break down each job role into smaller tasks and provides written prompts or visual signs that help volunteers carry out those tasks independently. The Job Coach spends time with volunteers preparing them for their new role and supports them in the early days until they feel confident to volunteer on their own. Volunteers can be accompanied by their own PA/Support Worker or family/carer if they choose. The Job Coach also liaises with the volunteer’s Line Manager so they know how best to support the volunteer. In time, the Job Coach withdraws and the volunteer attends independently.
Priority is given to people who are keen to progress to paid work but we also have opportunities for volunteers who enjoy having a regular activity in their week, where they are part of a team, are productive and feel valued. We make a small number of supported volunteer vacancies available to people with learning disabilities, physical or mental health needs who live within the local community and who are not being supported by Active Prospects.
Currently we have Supported Volunteer opportunities available in our Charity Shop (Reigate), our allotment (Earlswood, Redhill) and our Head Office (Reigate).
The Job Coach will support volunteers with CV preparation, job search and interview techniques as well as travel-training, confidence-building, employability skills and dealing with anxiety.
Supported Volunteers are unpaid roles. Our Job Coaches can provide support to access funding for travel, equipment and training. To find out more speak to Nick Kinsella on email@example.com or call 01737 924231. Alternatively, please complete our Supported Volunteer Form (with help from your support worker or family/carer) and return it to us.
Job Coaches are DBS checked and all supported volunteers undergo a risk assessment before starting in their role.
