Supported Internship Programme

Active Prospects have been chosen by Surrey County Council’s SEND Enterprise Programme as one of their three key partners in 2017 to deliver a Supported Internship Programme for young people with learning disabilities.

We have received a grant to fund a Future Prospects Employability Co-ordinator to set up and run a supported internship programme.  The project will be delivered in partnership with East Surrey College (ESC) and SCC SEND Enterprise Job Coach.  Eight interns referred from ESC will attend college part time and work within Active Prospects a couple of days each week, gaining skills to help them progress towards paid jobs. We also aim to link with other schools and colleges such as NESCOT.

Opportunities for interns include roles within our property and maintenance team, care homes and within Head Office.  They will be offered training by Active Prospects in-house training team in issues such as safeguarding, health and safety, equality and diversity and person-centred care.

The SEND Enterprise Job Coach and the ESC Tutor will work with students to address any barriers to them securing or maintaining a job, through role-play and responding to scenarios.  It is hoped that some interns will want to remain within Active Prospects as paid staff and others will be supported to gain further work experience or jobs within other local organisations.
