What lockdown is like for Matt…

Meet Matt, who tells us a bit more about him and life at the moment for people with learning disabilities in lockdown.

Matt, tell us a bit about yourself?

Well, I am 36 years old and normally I like to keep myself quite busy going to the cinema or visiting national parks to find out more about history. I am a big fan of comedy TV shows too. I spend a lot of my own time fundraising for different charities and organising fundraising events which I enjoy.

How do Active Prospects support you and what do you do with your support worker?

When we are not in lockdown, Active Prospects support me with your everyday things like cooking, shopping, cleaning, but their team also supports me to do things I really want to do. I love going to places I have never been to or never seen, so we go to places like the seaside.

How have you found the lockdown so far?

The lockdown has been ok so far. At the start going shopping was horrible and I did queue up at Tesco, but I had to leave as I felt quite anxious. There should have been more in place at first to help people like me, people with learning disabilities, or the elderly. It has got better now though as we have times to go which makes it not so stressful.

I have been watching my favourite sitcoms on the TV and trying to do my one-day walk. I also have tried to finish my puzzle, which I have now had to give up for a little while. The lockdown has stopped me going down the seaside and I really miss going along the beach as this was planned for the Easter holidays.

What is the first thing you want to do once the lockdown is over and it is safe to start to slowly return to normal life?

The first thing I want to do once the lockdown is over is to go and get everyone at Active Prospects to have a massive party! I also will go down to the seaside and have ice cream by the beach.
